Armação is a privileged setting off point for the north of the Island, just before Canas Point, where the channelling effect of the wind in the channel reaches its peak. For this reason, Armação beach is one of the best places on the whole of Ilhabela (and in the whole of Brazil) for windsurfing. It is a relatively large beach, being around 600 m long. The sandy stretch is wide and flat, housing an old chapel that used to bring together the place's former fishing community.

It is here on this beach that the Ilhabela Windsurf Association has its headquarters, with a small bar, bathrooms, a shower and a storage house, used by the members to store their surfboards and equipment.
