Jabaquara is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved
beaches on the Island. The beach is about 500 m long and there is a wide stretch of white
sand, divided by two streams, one at each
end of the beach. The river that flows into the right end forms a pretty pond of fresh
water, separated from the ocean by the stretch of sand and by some huge stones, with the
stream meandering past these before flowing into the sea. This is the northernmost point
of the Island that can be reached by car.
Jabaquara is a picturesque heavenly place, and
there are some caiçaras' (local inhabitants) houses and two bars serving fish,
portions of shrimps and beverages to those who come here whether by road or on the
schooners that circulate the Island _ which regard a short pause at the beach here as an
absolute must. |
