The only access by land through land between the two sides of Ilhabela is this 22 kilometer long road that crosses the State Park from west to east, right through the middle of the Island. . Due to the road's terrible condition, usually corroded by the tropical forest and crossed by several water streams that spring from the mountains, Castelhanos Road is only suitable for 4 wheel-drive vehicles. It is the paradise for off-road, track motorbikes, mountain bikes, knights and hikers.

The professional Jeep drivers that drive tourists to the uninhabited side of Ilhabela, and the fans of off road who tour the Island during weekends, conserve the road in minimum conditions. The itinerary begins at sea level, rises to an altitude of more than 800m and then descends once again to the beach, always crossing the totally untouched Atlantic Forest.
