Castelhanos it is the largest beach on the whole Island, being about 1 km long. Since it opens up to Castelhanos bay facing east; its waters are agitated, with big perfectly formed waves, excellent for surfing. The scenery is completed by some fishermen's cottages and a bar offering simple meals.

The only access to Castelhanos by land is along the 22-Km road that crosses the State Park from west to east, right through the middle of the Island. Due to the road's terrible condition, the Castelhanos route is only suitable for 4 wheel-drive vehicles. By sea, Castelhanos is about a 1-hour boat trip away from Perequê beach.

Starting at Castelhanos beach, there are trails to some of the Island's most beautiful attractions such as the Gato waterfall and Mansa, Vermelha, Figueira and Gato beaches.
